What is Global Perspectives?

Global Perspectives is a class that focuses on understanding global issues and how they affect people

around the world. The main idea is to look at issues from different viewpoints instead of just one side.

The course is about learning how to think, not just memorizing facts. We learn how to question

information, understand different opinions, and explain our own ideas clearly.

Main Skills in Global Perspectives

• Critical thinking – not believing everything right away and asking questions

• Research – finding information from different sources

• Analysis – breaking down ideas and arguments

• Evaluation – deciding how strong or weak a source or argument is

Global Issues

A global issue is a problem that affects more than one country and impacts a large number of people.

These issues usually can’t be solved by just one country.

Examples of global issues include climate change, poverty, human rights, access to education, and

global health.

Perspectives

A perspective is how someone views an issue based on their background, culture, beliefs, or

experiences. Different people can look at the same issue and have completely different opinions.

For example, a government, a scientist, and a regular citizen might all see climate change differently.

Sources

Sources are where information comes from. In Global Perspectives, sources can include articles,

statistics, speeches, images, interviews, and reports. Sources are used as evidence to support ideas

and arguments.

Reliable vs. Unreliable SourcesReliable sources usually come from experts, include evidence, and try to stay neutral. Unreliable

sources may be biased, emotional, or not backed up by facts.

Claims and Evidence

A claim is a statement or opinion someone is trying to prove. Evidence is the information used to

support that claim. Strong arguments clearly explain how the evidence supports the claim.

Why Unit 1 Matters

Unit 1 sets the foundation for the entire course. Understanding global issues, perspectives, and source

reliability is important for every future topic in Global Perspectives
