Purpose and Scope of the Amendment
- The primary objectives of this amendment are as follows:
- To reestablish the specific policy regarding requests for journal replacements.
- To amend Section IV.J of General Order 13−017, which was originally dated August 13, 2013.

- It is the formal policy of the Chicago Fire Department to ensure that all journal replacement requests are granted in a timely manner.
Procedures for Journal Replacement
- Section IV.J of General Order 11−017 is amended to include the following procedural requirements:
- Threshold for Request: A request for a new Company Journal must be made when the current journal has 15 or fewer pages remaining.
- Authorized Personnel: Company Officers and any members in charge are mandated to initiate the request for a new journal.
- Request Channel: All requests for new Company Journals must be submitted through the Division of Breathing Apparatus Services (BAS).
Member Responsibilities and Compliance
- It is the duty of all members of the Chicago Fire Department to maintain a thorough knowledge of the contents of this amendment.
- All members are responsible for ensuring full compliance with the updated procedures described herein.
Dissemination and Posting Requirements
- This General Order must be communicated throughout the department via the following methods:
- It must be read at 4 (four) separate roll calls.
- It must be posted in a designated area for review.
