Biological Hierarchy of Organization
Biological systems are organized in a strict structural hierarchy ranging from microscopic chemical components to complex multi-organ systems:
- Atom: The fundamental building block of all chemical matter.
- Molecule: A chemical structure composed of two or more atoms joined together by chemical bonds.
- Macromolecule: A large, complex biological molecule composed of smaller monomeric subunits bound together.

Stem Cells and Specialized Cell Types
Stem cells serve as the precursor cells capable of self-renewal and differentiation into specialized cell lineages throughout the body. Through cellular differentiation, stem cells give rise to diverse cell types tailored to specialized biological roles:
- Skin Cells (keratinocytes): Specialized cells constituting the protective outer barrier layer of the skin.
- Nerve Cells (neurons): Specialized cells designed to transmit electrical signals and chemical messages throughout the nervous system.
- Liver Cells (hepatocytes): The primary functional parenchymal cells of the liver, responsible for metabolic processes, detoxification, and biochemical synthesis.
- Muscle Cells (myocytes): Contractile cells specialized for force production, movement, and physical structure.
- Alveolar Cells (pneumocytes): Specialized epithelial cells lining the respiratory alveoli, responsible for gas exchange within the lungs.
