Colligative Properties of Solutions

Colligative properties are the changes at some physical porpties that result from adding solute to a solvent.

  • Relative lowering of vapor pressure

  • Boiling point elevation

  • Freezing point depression

  • Osmotic Pressure

Boiling Point Elevation & Freezing Point Depression, Part 1

Boiling point elevation

The boiling point of a liquid can be defined as the temperature at which its vapor pressure becomes equal to the atmosphere

the difference in the boiling points of the solution and pure solvent is called the elevation in boiling point

Freezing point depression
