Betty Friedan: Wrote The Feminine Mystique, which tremendously increased awareness about feminism
National Organization for Women (NOW): Feminist organization created by Betty Friedan. Main goal was to advocate for the Equal Rights Amendment (ERA).
Equal Rights Amendment (ERA): Guarantees gender equality under law. Was proposed in 1920 but never passed.
Gloria Steinem: Co-founded Ms., A feminist magazine
Phyllis Schlafly: Female political activist that opposed the feminist movement.
Roe v Wade: Gave women the right for legal abortions
Bracero Program: Gave Mexican migrants temporary access to guest worker status, for them to work in agriculture.
Hector P Garcia: Latino veteran that founded the American GI Forum to battle discrimination
Cesar Chavez: most influential Latino Activist, fought for the rights of migrant farmworkers. (They were called that because they often changed locations)
Dolores Huerta: She created the United Farm Workers (UFW) labor union with Cesar Chavez
Chicano Movement: Mexican American social and political effort that increased awareness about Latino culture and quality of life issues within the Latino community
American Indian Movement (AIM): Addressed Civil Rights Issues regarding Native Americans
Ralph Nader: Wrote Unsafe At Any Speed which raised awareness about how automotive companies sacrifice safety for profits.
