Motion time graph with acceleration

Speeding up, acceleration and velocity have the same signs

Slowing down acceleration and velocity are opposite signs

ex. A → Speeding up

Velocity = +x

Acceleration = +a

Motion type = Speeding Up

kinematic equation xfinal = x intitial + velocity initial (t) + 1/2at²

ex. B → Slowing down

Velocity = +x

Acceleration = -a

Motion type = Slowing Down

xfinal = + velocity initial (t) - 1/2at²

ex. C → Speeding Up

Velocity = -x

Acceleration = -a

Motion type = Speeding Up

ex. D → Slowing down

Velocity = -x

Acceleration = +a

Motion type = Slowing Down

ex. E → Constant

Velocity = +x

Acceleration = no acceleration - no change because cosntant velocity

Motion type = Constant

ex. F → Constant

Velocity = -x

Acceleration = no acceleration - no change because cosntant velocity

Motion type = Constant

A & D

Speed increases as the acceleration is decreasing

slope = (0-6) / (7-3) = (-6 m/s) / 4 s =

Acceleration = -1.5 m/s²

Displacement = area under the velocity graph

area ½ (4s) x 6 m/s + 3× 6

12 + 18 = 30

Example practice problem 4

object is speeding up and is accelerating because the slope is constantly moving

velocity was decreasing at first and then turned around and increased (turned around when it met the x axis

describe the velocity time graph →

velocity is slowing down and at 10 seconds stops and then turns around and starts to increase in velocity

east + 30 m/s (velocity) , slows down, decreases velocity and stops at a red light a graph of velocity is shown of her over time, which acceleration graph shows her traveling.

We would look for a graph with a constant negative slope. So constant negative acceleration answer would be D line under the x axis straight across

Now we have to find the corresponding velocity graph.

constant negative acceleration, which means we have a velocity with a constant and negative slope moving westward so it would be below the x axis

Practice 2 → Acceleration vs time graph
