International English = English spoken by non-native speakers of English

The result of people still promoting an artificial language has bee poor. Esperanto, for example, is still known and spoken by a few million people.

Globish is short for Global English

The overall aim of Globish is faciliating contacts between non-native and native speakers of English at international meetings.

One can’t do with 1500 words, but the 1500 words Globish consists of can be multiplied. The same word can be used as a noun, a verb or an adjective, you can combine words, you can add suffices to the basic words and there are phrasal verbs. There is also some vocabulary that is understood and used in various languages.

Typical of English is the fact that a noun can also be used as a verb and as an adjective. Phrasal verbs are another source of meaning.

One should speak clearly and use whatever illustrations they have at their disposal, including your body language and you should avoid jokes or humour. Also, figurative language is to be avoided.

Dutch speaking people might have the following two problems with English pronunciation:

  1. the pronunciation of ‘th’

  2. voiced final sounds
