Unseen Poetry QUASH method

***VERY IMPORTANT:

In an english exam, you cannot ask the poet personally why they made certain choices, so you are rewarded for your own interpretations. Don’t be afraid of getting something wrong!!!!

Q = Question

Look at the question first. Understand the question & what hints does it give about the poem?

U= Understand

Understand & identify the main message of the poem. Maybe a brief introduction?

A = Analysis/Annotation

Language techniques & what they suggest & effect on the reader & link back to question

S = Structure

how many stanzas? identify rhyme scheme? cyclical structure?

→ how it adds to the meaning of the poem

H = Hustle

after plan, aim to write 3-4 detailed paragraphs
