HEAT
9.3 PRINCIPLES OF EXPANSION AND CONTRACTION OF MATTER
SOLID EXPANSION: Particles in a solid that are in a fixed position. When heated up, the particles will vibrate faster and the space between each particle increases
SOLID CONTRACTION: When the solid is being cooled down, the particles will vibrate slower and the space between the particles are less
LIQUID EXPANSION: Particles move freely. When heated, the particles will vibrate even faster and the space between the particles will increase.
LIQUID CONTRACTION: When gas or liquid are being cooled down, the particles will move slower and it will contract closer to one another.
FIRE ALARM
when the circuit is exposed to heat, the copper will expand faster than the iron casuing the wire to bend towards the connection screw. This will complete the sister circuit and sound the alarm
9.4 THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN A TYPE OF OBJECT AND THE ABSORPTION AND THE RELEASE OF HEAT
ABSORPTION AND THE RELEASE OF HEAT
The ability of an object to absorb and release heat depends on the type and colour of the surface
when an object absorbs heat, the temperature will increase. Where as when the object releases heat, the temperature will decrease. Dark and dull surfaces absorb and release heat much more than light and shiny surfaces.
THE CONCEPT OF HEAT IN A DAILY LIFE
The concept of a green building is to reduce impact on the environment and human health due to rapid development
Has a high energy efficiency using solar energy
Has good drainage, air circulation and lighting
Using recycled materials
