Chapter 1

1. When asked to describe a univariate distribution always remember to describe:  context, shape, outliers, center, spread

2. Interpret standard deviation: the typical distance of a value from the mean (IN CONTEXT)

Chapter 2

3. Interpret z-score: the # of standard deviations a value is above/below the mean (IN CONTEXT)

Chapter 3

4. How we describe bivariate data: context, direction, outliers, form, strength

5. Interpret y-intercept of LSRL: the PREDICTED value of the response variable when the value of the explanatory variable is 0 (IN CONTEXT)

6. Interpret slope of LSRL: the PREDICTED change in value of the response variable when the value of the explanatory variable increases by one (IN CONTEXT)

7. Residual = y-y (actual minus predicted)

8. Interpret r2: the proportion of variation in y that can be explained by the regression model of y on x (IN CONTEXT)

9. Interpret s: the standard deviation of the residuals which is the typical distance between the actual y-values and the predicted y-values (IN CONTEXT)

Chapter 4

SRS -Simple Random Sample - Gives every possible sample of the desired size (n) an equal chance to be chosen

Four principles of a well designed experiment:

Comparison, Random Assignment, Replication, Control
