Psalm 102

  1. Asking God

    1. To hear our prayers

    2. Let our cries be heard by him

    3. Do not hide your face in our time of trouble

    4. Open your ear to us

    5. Answer us quickly

  2. Our Issues

    1. The days pass without meaning like smoke

    2. The psalmist’s bones burn as if in a fire

    3. His heart is struck and withered like dead grass

    4. So much so he forgets to eat

    5. He feels so weak his skin clings to his bones

    6. Compares himself to a pelican or owl, two birds used to represent gloom and despair

    7. His enemies hate him at all times and swear against him

    8. Ashes and weeping are his food and drink

    9. He is feeling casted away as punishment by God through God’s indignation and wrath

      1. Where he was once lifted, he is now low so he believes he is being punished

    10. He feels like his days are receding like a shadow

  3. Praising Regardless

    1. The Lord will persist forever and his memory in all generations

    2. He will return and have mercy on his people (He is speaking of Zione specifically)

    3. His servants take joy in the city of Zion and favor the dust there

    4. Trusting the heathen will fear his name and all the kings will see his glory

    5. He will hear the prayers of the poor and listen

    6. God’s years span all the generations

    7. He laid the Earth’s foundation and the works of Heaven are his

    8. They all will die but he will remain and he will be unchanged forever

    9. His servants will persist in all generations and their children will be established before him.

  4. Trust in God (written for everyone born after to praise God)

    1. The Lord looks down from the sanctuary onto Earth

    2. To hear the weary prisoner and free those sentenced to death

    3. To declare his name in Zion and his praise in Jerusalem

    4. Where people and nations gather to serve him

    5. He recognizes God allowed for his weakness yet trusts him anyway

    6. He pleads with God to not take him in the middle of his life
