Spanish Notes

Unit 7 Lesson 1: ¿Qué compras en el supermercado? (What do you buy at the supermarket?)

Comprar
  • "Comprar" means "to buy." Regular arar verb; subject-verb agreement is necessary. Conjugation involves dropping arar and adding oo for "Yo" (I). Examples: ¿Qué compras? Compro.

Pronunciation
  • Double ll is pronounced as yy. The letter jj is pronounced as an hh.

Conjugation Rules
  • Review arar, erer, irir charts. "Yo" ends in oo. Drop arar and add asas for "tú" (you). Examples provided.

  • Key phrases and verbs include El cepillo de dientes, La pasta de dientes, La medicina, Tomar (to take).

  • ropa = clothes, ¿Cuánto = How much?

Example sentence:
  • Discusses currency in different countries using Aqui en los Estados Unidos, pagamos en dólar y centavos and Allá en Costa Rica, ellos pagan en colones.

Costar Verbs
  • Stem changing verb (O --> UE). Examples: ¿Cuánto cuestan? (Las pijamas), ¿Cuánto cuesta? (Una camisa).

Usar words:
  • Costar = to cost, Comprar = to buy.
