Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) Model
Networking is complicated.
It invokes (in no order)
Packaging data into a form that can be transmitted from one device to another
Ensuring the appropriate destination
Establishing and maintaining communication between devices
Finding optimal paths between devices
Checking and adjusting for errors
Maintaining security of data in transit
Unpacking data so it can be understood at the destination]
Application layer - layer 7 os the model
invovles the communication between end use applications and the ntwork
this will involve a user interface of some kind, as well as various protocols that allow the application to communicateo ver the netwrok
includes thingsl ike web browing
yeah just do this later i cant be damned rn, he has the slides so just copy them all down and then make flashcards. can do that otnight if you want to.
data translation: ensuring the data sent by one system can be undetsood by theo ther
Presnetation layer - lyaer 6
Session - Layer 5
manages the session between two devices
for two or more apps to communicate, a session must be established
TCP - reliable we ll ordered transmimssion with error checking.
for example we would rather erecieve and email more slowly than recieve an email withits conentes corrupted
