  1. Bark up the wrong tree - selecting the wrong course of way, looking in the wrong place

  2. Put the cart before the horse - doing things in the wrong order

  3. A flash in the pan - Something which looks like a huge success, but fails to work out.

  4. In a pickle - In an embarrassed or discomforting situation, in a problematic situation.

  5. Bite off more than you can chew - Take on more than one can manage.

  6. A stitch in time saves nine - Doing something in advance, saves having to do much harder work later.

  7. All bark and no bite - A person who talks far more insistently than they act.

  8. Finding your feet - To gain self-confidence in what you are doing.

  9. A blessing in disguise- a good thing that seemed bad at first.

  10. Bet on the wrong horse - Misread the future, make plans that go awry.

  11. Beat around the bush- Avoid saying what you mean, usually because it is uncomfortable.

  12. Better late than never- Better to arrive late than not to come at all.

  13. Bite the bullet- To get something over with because it is inevitable.

  14. Call it a day- Stop working on something

  15. Rolling in the aisles - Laughing loudly.

  16. To throw in the towel - To give up and stop trying.

  17. To pay through the nose - Paying money for something which is not worth that amount.

  18. Cat get one's tongue - Cannot speak due to nervousness.

  19. Give someone the benefit of the doubt- Trust what someone says.

  20. Under the weather- sick, slightly unwell or in low spirits.

  21. Birds of a feather flock together- People who are alike are often friends (usually used negatively).

  22. Break the ice- Make people feel more comfortable

  23. Don't count your chickens before they hatch- Don't count on something good happening until it's happened.

  24. Don't cry over spilt milk- There's no reason to complain about something that can't be fix

  25. Don't put all your eggs in one basket- What you're doing is too risky

  26. Every cloud has a silver lining- Good things come after bad things

  27. Give someone the cold shoulder- Ignore someone

  28. Look before you leap- Take only calculated risks

  29. Spill the beans- Give away a secret

  30. You can't judge a book by its cover- This person or thing may look bad, but it's good inside

  31. Leave no stone unturned- Look everywhere

  32. On cloud nine- Very happy

  33. Make hay while the sun shines- Take advantage of a good situation

  34. We see eye to eye- We agree

  35. Break a leg- wishing good luck
