Steps of DNA Replication

Step 1: Recognition of Initiation-

  • Replication begins at the points called origins of replication

  • the 2 strands open at origins of replication forming y-shaped areas called replication forks

  • new DNA strands grow at the forks

Step 2: Unwinding DNA-

  • helicse (uncoiling of DNA)

  • - Topoismerase(relieves the stress on DNA strands at replication forks)

Step 3: RNA Primer-

  • Primase- attaches the primers to the DNA

Step 4: Elongation-

  • 5’ to 3’

  • Ligase (glues okazaki fragments tgt)

  • Leading strands

Step 5: Proof Reading

  • correct mistakes

  • get rid of introns
