- When exposed to cold temperatures, neurons detect the drop in temperature.
- A signal is sent to the brain.
- The brain triggers a response to generate heat through shivering in order to maintain body temperature.
Components of the Mammalian Nervous System
- The mammalian nervous system is divided into two main components:
- Central Nervous System (CNS): Consists of the brain and the spinal cord (noted as being shown in yellow in diagrams).
- Peripheral Nervous System (PNS): Consists of all the nerves in the body located outside of the brain and the spinal cord (noted as being shown in pink in diagrams).

Effector:
