The Constitution
Colonies need to find a way to govern themselves.
They made the articles of confederation, yet it had many flaws.
one flaw, separation of powers, all governments have 1 of three traits, executive or chief, most of them have a legislative branch , congress is separated, the senate and the house, the third is a court system like judiciary, necessary to interpret laws. You need more than 2 of those to be considered a government.
2nd, it had a legislature which they call the congress, yet for any law to be effective it had to be anonymous. Every stay had a total veto over any law that was passed.
last flaw, it had no enforcement power. any law to be effective has to have cohesion behind it. There has to be some sort of discomfort for a law to be enforced. For example, if the U.S allows other nations to import goods to their nation, another foreign nation wants to import you must tax them.
James Madison was a Virginian good friend of George Washington, alexander Hamilton. Madsion realized he must do something to change the thought process, so he found a way to coheres the state to send more communists, it was a convention. That came out of this is the U.S Constitution. They only wanted to amend, not change the articles.
They made an entirely new government that had never existed before.
Focus on this, big states vs small states, free states and slaves’ states, everyone knew southern states were not going to give up slavery, they were to engrave that they could not get rid of it. Watch the actions of James Madison and George Washington. When the convention stated it was separated into 2, called committee of the hole and
Washington whenever there were official procedures he never opened his mouth because Hamilton says meeting Washington is like talking to you father, creditor, and maker into one. It is because he did not want to influence the outcome.
