Choir Council Notes
Bonding and Activities
Letter Points and Bonding:
Try to host bonding activities regularly (e.g., every two months or monthly).
Previous attempts to host monthly events faced challenges due to time constraints and preferences.
Dance Instruction:
Consider teaching dance at parties to impart fundamental skills in an engaging way.
This approach can encourage participation in dances by equipping people with technique knowledge.
Attendance
Attendance Tracking:
Share responsibility for attendance, possibly alternating days or assigning the task based on circumstances.
Use the tablet to access attendance records via Safari and PowerSchools.
Record absences by clicking on the respective box and submitting.
After-School Attendance:
Use the yellow binder for after-school rehearsals.
Consider incorporating activities like White Lies or spirit days to boost morale and inclusivity.
Addressing Cliques
Combating Cliques:
Actively work to prevent cliquiness within Broadway Bound.
Ensure everyone is included in conversations and activities.
Be willing to step outside your comfort zone to engage with different people.
Personal Sacrifice and Leadership
Sacrifice and Dedication:
Council members need to be prepared to make sacrifices, including time and personal preferences.
Address personal challenges, such as social media addiction, to prioritize choir responsibilities.
Leading by Example:
Arrive early and offer assistance to others.
Learn everyone's names to foster a sense of belonging.
Offer greetings and compliments to create a positive atmosphere (e.g., "That's a nice shirt.").
Uphold traditions like Fistbump Fridays.
Maintaining Respect and Order
Respect for Leadership:
Maintain a quiet and respectful environment during sessions with Douglas and JR.
Even if JR doesn't enforce the no-cross-arms rule, consider upholding it.
Be proactive in following instructions and setting a positive example.
Support and Logistics
Post-Rehearsal Support:
Ensure everyone has transportation after rehearsals, offering rides if needed.
Perspective on Council Service:
Acknowledge that council work can be demanding and sometimes unappreciated, but it can also be enjoyable.
Managing Group Dynamics
Call and Response Alternatives
Use an alternative method, such as Simon Says, to capture the attention of the group.
Inclusive Leadership:
Engage with all members, regardless of personal feelings or conflicts.
Address concerns privately and maintain a positive attitude publicly.
Never complain about Douglas or the council within earshot of the choir members. Don't complain about the choir to other members of the choir.
If you're assigned the back spot, don't complain.
Positive Reinforcement:
Maintain a positive outlook and attitude.
