Sleep and Dreams 

^^Non Rem- Stage 1^^
  • Body making the transition from being awake to falling asleep
  • heart. breathing and eye movement slows
  • easily awakened from stage 1
  • experiencing hypnic jerks during this stage is common.
  • lasts 5 to ten mins
^^Non Rem- Stage 2^^
  • lasts 10-25 mins
  • eye movement stops, muscles relax, heart and brainwaves slow
  • a person spends more time in stage two throughout the night than any other stage
^^Non Rem- Stage 3/4^^
  • lasts 20-40 minutes
  • a lot deeper sleep
  • if you wake up during stage 3/4 sleep, you will feel a lot more tired and groggy
  • blood pressure falls and body temp drops
  • heart rate at low level
^^REM (Rapid Eye Movement^^
  • brainwaves during REM are similar to somebody who’s awake
  • happens about 90 mins after falling asleep
  • lasts 10 mins
  • when most dreaming occurs
  • brain is most active
  • breathing becomes fast and shallow
