DNA Replication

  • The the Replication Bubble is where DNA replication begins.

Steps for DNA Replication:

  1. break the hydrogen bonds of the double helix

  2. keep the parental strands form joining back together

  3. Create an available 3’ OH from RNA

  4. replace the RNA with DNA

  5. add new DNA nucleotides

  6. Join the Okazaki Fragments

  1. Opening the parental strand helix: Helicase

  2. Stabilizing the parental strand helix: SSB

  3. Relieve tension in the parental strand helix: Topoisomerase (Gyrase in Prokaryotes

  4. Starting the daughter strand with rNTPs - providing a 3’OH Primase

  5. Primase leaves a short RNA strand (aka Primer) that provides a 3’O
