2 Thessalonians

Paul warns the Thessalonians not to be deceived by false teachings claiming to be from him regarding the day of the Lord. He states that the rebellion and the revealing of the "man of lawlessness" must occur first. This "lawless one" will operate with the power of Satan and deceive those who reject the love of truth. Paul clarifies that the mystery of lawlessness is already at work, though restrained, and this lawless one will eventually be destroyed by Christ's return.

Second Coming of Jesus Christ

The expectation of Jesus Christ's second coming is a central belief, based on Jesus' promise to prepare a place for believers and return to rapture them. Paul outlines the signs of Jesus Christ's coming in his letter to the Thessalonians.

Preparation for Christ's Return

Christians should be prepared for the Lord's sudden arrival, like a thief in the night. They should not be caught in a false sense of peace and security, as destruction will come unexpectedly. True Christians, both living and dead, have hope through faith in Jesus Christ's redemption and should live righteously.

Details of the Second Coming

Paul clarifies to the Thessalonians that those who have died in Christ will not miss out on His return. Jesus will descend from heaven with a cry of command, the voice of an archangel, and the sound of God's trumpet. The dead in Christ will rise first, then those alive will be caught up together with them in the clouds (in their spiritual bodies) to meet the Lord in the air, and so they will always be with the Lord.
