Neurobiology
Glia-Schwann cells(PNS only)
Macroglial :
Astrocytes: provide structural support, maintains ion balance, surround blood vessels (BBB),
Reactive astrocytes: go to damaged/injury to proliferate and repair
Protoplasmic astrocytes: occur in gray matter (delicate w/ many branches)
Fibrous astrocytes: Surround BBB, occur in white matter, cover exterior surface of CNS (more fibrous and robust)
Oligodendrocytes: Predominate in white matter
Extend multiple arms to myelinated multiple axons within the CNS
PNS—>Schwann cells
Myelin is the fatty layer that increases velocity of action potential
Micro glial Cells
Scavengers
