Seed Sampling and Purity Analysis

Collection of Sample

  1. Seed lot

  2. Sampling with Triers or Hand

  3. Primary sample

  4. Composite sample

  5. Seed sample reduction method

  6. Submitted sample - Duplicate sample (for lab testing)

Materials used to get samples:

  1. Mechanical divider or Conical divider - used for purity analysis

  1. Seed triers

Formula of each component (pure seed, other seed, inert matter):

  1. Pure seeds - seeds conforms to the variety of species that the farm/sender specifies

  • whole seeds

  • broken seeds

  • diseased seeds

  • immature

  • sprouted

  • shriveled

  • insect damaged

  • cracked seeds

  1. Other seeds - seeds which do not conform to the variety specified by sender

  2. Inert matter - mixture in samples other than pure seed or other seeds

  • broken seeds (1 half or less then its normal size)

  • diseased seeds altered by fungi

  • stones, soil, sand

  • insects
