A. Bold the Subject and Underline the Predicate

  • In each of the following sentences, BOLD the subject and underline the predicate.
  1. The tall man squeezed himself into the subcompact car.
  2. The young Canada geese practiced landings on the pond.
  3. Gary and Celeste met for dinner twice a week.
  4. The man in the grey suit wandered around the hallway.
  5. After the jury was selected and seated, the judge started the proceedings.
  6. In the short story by Chopin, "Story of an Hour," Mrs. Mallard learns of her husband's death, her hour of freedom, and shock of husband's survival.
  7. The first day of May brought green sprigs of grass peeking through the surprise snowstorm.
  8. When he looked at the clock, he knew he was late for the movie.
  9. The hungry dog sat by his food dish.
  10. Twenty five mad scientists flocked to the auditorium, spread out through the large room, and sat down.

B. Your Turn: Make Up Your Own Sentences

  • Create (10) sentences. BOLD the subject; underline the predicate; and place parentheses around prepositional phrases.
