4.5 – The Intolerable Acts and the First Continental Congress

  • Intolerable Acts (1774) (also called Coercive Acts):

    • Closed Boston Harbor

    • Limited town meetings

    • Allowed British soldiers to be housed in private homes (Quartering Act)

  • Colonists unified:

    • First Continental Congress (1774) met in Philadelphia

    • Agreed to support Massachusetts, called for militias, and boycotted British goods.
