Cerebellum

The cerebellum is behind the brainstem and below the cerebrum. It has two hemispheres. The middle part of the cerebellum coordinates the middle of the body including the midline and walking. the side does more with the limbs. the rest ddeals with speech and eyes.

  • coordinates movement. smooths movements, makes them more accurate

    • motor plan - which muscles contract, how strongly, how long

    • Position sense - can tell if the movement needs to be fixed or corrected to match the motor plan

    • Feedback - sends feedback to the cerebellum to make needed adjustments to movement
