Did a soft field takeoff start. Then just follow the first three points of the navlog that I created. He diverted to Bay City. He wanted me to put it in the GPS to prove I knew how after I got the distance calculated fuel and simulated calling FSS. Then he asked me to get into slow flight. Climbing turn in slow flight and descending turns in slow flight. Then power off stall with 20° bank. Power on install with no bank. Then we did foggles with climbing turns and descending turns. Unusual attitudes. Then I was done with the foggles. He then asked me to get as low as I can because he wanted to take a picture of an intersection that he called out. That’s where I did terms about a point. He did not like me choosing 800 feet MSL as my altitude. He said I have no idea why you would choose that you should be 1000 AGL. We did steep turns both directions. Then he asked me to go land at Houston Fort Bend. So I had to enter the pattern properly and he said we were going to do a soft field landing there since it is a grass strip. He called to go around about 200 feet AGL. We then headed back to KsGr for pattern work. One short field landing with. And taxi back. Then a forward slip to land. Then the final stop was a soft field landing.
Went through documents - after IACRA was completed we dove into personal documents, he just made sure that I had knew all that I needed for a ramp check and the plane did as well.
As a part of that, he ensured I knew what class medical I had and how long it lasts.
Moved into airworthiness, asked questions about how we know the plane is airworthy and how the airworthiness certificate remains valid.
Asked questions about a decision process for inoperable equipment (landing light wasn’t illuminated during preflight - ATAPERPDLL, 91.205, squawk in books)
Then asked what would happen if the flaps weren’t working (in this example your airplane was stuck at KPSX and no maintenance personnel could be found)
Asked about special flight permit restrictions
Into XC planning
First went into weather info - made sure I understood the briefing and asked if the flight was possible with the weather.
Asked if the weather changed in the air what action would you take? (call FSS and update weather enroute and destination)
How would you find your FSS frequency in the sectional on your XC?
Make sure you include all NOTAMs in your briefing packet should you print one
We would come back to weather later, but this was cursory for the XC planning
Next went into the navlog and W&B
Asked where I got my numbers and emphasised that numbers in the POH are for a brand new airplane flown by test pilots, understand that and ensure you provide safety margins for personal minimums (Joe likes to double all the numbers but he insisted if I believed that 30% margins were my personal minimums he took no issue)
Had me explain the W&B table, weights, fuel amount chosen (talked legal requirements and personal mins), and where the T/O weight fell in the weight and balance graph.
He then asked if my CG was more fore or aft and what the differences of fore vs aft CG are.
Talked me through pressure and density altitude and impacts on performance.
Took a cursory look at the navlog and made sure all points were on both the navlog and sectional.
Talked through the weather at the destination (my fuel stop was KCRS), what runway I would expect and how I knew they had services available.
While in XC planning he talked aeromedical factors, asked what I would do if I had a passenger who started to become extremely talkative over 10000 ft ( they usually aren’t talkative - hypoxia), then asked what I would tell a passenger who within the last 24hrs went scuba diving (just know where to reference in the PHAK)
Moved into sectional, pulled up SkyVector, asked what I would have to do if I wanted to overfly KAUS in the Class C airspace, what I would need to do and what I needed to have aboard, asked a similar question about Class B
Touched on Restricted and Prohibited areas on the sectional then went down to Florida and asked about a flight out over the ocean (you would cross the ADIZ outbound from your departure and back in to your arrival)
Looked into other special uses and asked about Alert Areas and MOA’s - how you know if they’re active and would you fly through them

Asked what causes magnetic deviation and why it’s important
Quickly covered weather
Pulled up AWC page, had me read the Prog Chart (Warm, Cold, and Stationary front, then asked about Isobars and what they mean when they’re close together)
Asked quickly about high and low pressure weather
How far away should you fly from thunderstorms and what causes them?
Airmet, Sigmet, Conv. Sigmet and how long they last
Wrapped up the oral and asked if I had any further questions - if not then you’ll start preflighting
