Indices 1
Index laws
- Indices include square roots, cube roots and powers
- You can use the index laws to simplify powers and roots
- A(m) x A(n) = A(m+n)
- A(m)/A(n)=A(m-n)
- (Am)n=A(mn)
Cube root
- The cube root of a positive number is positive
- 4(3)=64
- The cube root is a negative number is negative
- (-4)3=-64
Powers of 0 and 1
- Anything raised to the power 0 is equal to 1
- 6(0)=1
- Anything raised to the power 1 is equal to itself
- 6(1)=6
Indices checklist
- The base number have to be the same
- If there’s no index, the number has the power 1
- Be careful with negatives
