Physics - Fields

  • Force Field: is an invisible area around an object where it can exert a force on other objects without physically touching them. This can be due to gravity, magnetism, and static electricity.

In simple terms, these field areas where little things can be pushed or pulled by something they are not touching.

Gravity is a force that pulls objects towards each other. The more massive an object, the stronger its gravitational pull.

Magnetism is a force that cause materials to either attract or repel each other.

Static Electricity is the build up of electric charge on the surface of objects, which can cause a sudden discharge, like a spark when they come into contact with another object.

Gravitational Force is the energy an object possesses because of its position in a gravitational field.

Its the energy stored in an object that’s held up off the ground. The higher an object is the more gravitational potential energy it has.

Gravitational potential energy is the name for energy stored because of an objects position in a gravitational field.

  • If an object is moved away from the Earth it stores energy. The raised object can transfer this energy when it is allowed to fall.

Gravitational potential energy is the energy that an object has because of its height above the ground.
How much energy is has depends on three things:
Mass - how heavy the object is

Height - how high it is lifted.
Gravitational Field - this is like the strength of the earths pull (gravity) and is about (10N/Kg) here on earth.

  • FORMULA TO CALCULATE:

Gravitational Potential Force (J) = Mass (kg) x Height (M) x Gravitational Field Strength (N/kg)
Example: if you have a rock that weighs 2kg and you lift it 3 meters off the, you’d play those numbers into the formula like this:
    Gravitational potential energy = 2 kg x 3m x 10 N/kg = 20 joules

This means that the rock has 60 jealous of energy because of its position up in the air. if you let it go, it would use this energy to move downwards.

Energy can also be stored in electrics fields and magnetic fields.

  • Electric fields - is an invisible force fields around charged particles, like electrons and protons. (it shows how the eclectic charge of an object influences other nearby charged objects.)

Electric field affects other charged objects around it, either pulling them closer if they have opposite charges or push them away if they have similar charges. Its always there around charged objects, but we can only see its effects not the field itself.

  • Magnetic Field - is an invisible area around magnets where magnetic forces can be felt. It acts like a force field that can attract or repel other magnets and affect magnetic materials like iron.

This field is strongest near the magnets poles (the ends) and weaker as you move from the magnet.

Energy can also be stored in electric fields and around magnetic fields. You need to use a force to pull two magnets apart. The work done by moving the magnets stores the same amount of energy is released as they move back together.
