The Sun's gravity pulls the planets so they orbit around it.

Solar system - a star (the sun), planets and dwarf planets in orbit around the sun, satellite moons in orbit around most of the planets, comets and asteroids in orbit around the sun

Inner planets - Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars

outer planets - Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune

Asteroid belt - a region of space between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter where most of the asteroids in our Solar System are found orbiting the Sun

goldilocks zone - the habitable zone around a star where the temperature is just right (not too hot and not too cold) for liquid water to exist on a planet

What makes a planet habitable? A habitable planet must be in the "Goldilocks zone," with a stable orbit, rotational axis, water, essential chemicals, and enough mass to sustain an atmosphere. This atmosphere regulates temperature and pressure for life.

terrestrial planet - compact, rocky surface

gaseous planets - large planets mostly composed of helium and/or hydrogen

waning moon - the moon is getting smaller

The Earth Rotates from west to east it takes 24 hours to complete one rotation - a day

earths axis - 23.5 degrees

It takes Earth 365 ¼ days to orbit the Sun—one year—so the seasons are repeated every year.

This tilt also causes variations in day length throughout the year; in summer the days are longer and nights are shorter. 

Heliocentric - The sun is in the middle of the solar system and planets orbit it. Copernicus came up with it.

Geocentric - Earth is the centre of the universe, with the Sun, Moon, stars, and planets revolving around it. Exodus first proposed the model around 380 BCE, and later Aristotle enhanced it.
