Paper 1 discussion

Comprehension

  • The response must match the verb - pay attention verbs

  • If something is for 2 or 3 marks write 2 - 3 points!!!!

  • Use the PEEL method

  • Do not copy directly from the passage (use own words) - unless you are asked to ‘quote’

  • Avid vague answers, be specific.

  • Remember the formulas to answering comprehension questions.

  • The content should not be repeated across questions

Summary

  • should be a fluent paragraph - it needs to flow

  • do not repeat points

  • do not give unnecessary examples or extra explanations - just the points

  • do not go over the MAX word count - when writing little words insure it is full sentences.

Visual Literacy

  • refer to the correct text

  • when a question asks for your opinion, you must SUPPORT your answer with reasoning, still related to what you are looking at.

  • when a question asks you to discuss the effectiveness of something, you will get no marks for saying ‘It is effective / it is not effective…. because it caught my attention….. ‘what about it caught your attention?? what about it or language used makes something effective?

  • Learn the AIDA principle and be ready to apply it!!!!

  • learn how to refer to body language and facial expressions to explain their emotions

    • be specific

  • reported speech/ indirect speech

  • learn how to answer questions on redundancy/ tautology and concord

  • learn parts of speech!!!!!
