Stage N1 Sleep Overview
Stage N1 (Non-REM1) Sleep
- First stage of non-REM sleep.
- Characterized by drowsy sleep and absence of rapid eye movements (REM).
- Presence of myoclonic jerks (sudden muscle movements).
- Often involves a sensation of falling, contributing to the term "falling asleep."
- EEG patterns show theta waves, which are slower in frequency and greater in amplitude than alpha waves.
- The transition from relaxation to Stage N1 sleep is gradual.
