Angles Vocabulary

Corresponding angles:the angles which occupy the same relative position at each intersection where a straight line crosses two others. If the two lines are parallel, the corresponding angles are equal.

Alternate Interior Angle:Alternate interior angles are formed when a transversal passes through two lines

Alternate Exterior Angles:Alternate exterior angles are angles that are on opposite sides of the transversal and outside the two lines

Vertical Angles:each of the pairs of opposite angles made by two intersecting lines.

Linear Pair:A linear pair is a pair of adjacent, supplementary angles.

Same-Side Interior Angles:Same side interior angles are two angles that are on the interior of (between) the two lines and specifically on the same side of the transversal

Same-Side Exterior Angles:refers to a pair of angles that are located outside two parallel lines and on the same sidee. of transversal that intersects them.

Right Angle:an angle of exactly 90 degrees

Straight Angle:measures 180°

Obtuse Angle:any angle larger than 90 degrees and less than 180 degrees.

Acute Angle:one that measures less than 90°, or less than a right angle

Parallel Lines:two or more lines that are always the same distance apart and never intersect, even if they are extended infinitely in both directions

Transversal:intersecting a system of lines.
