Menstrual Cycle

(Day 1-7) Menstruation (Period)

• Endometrium Sheds → (lining of the uterus thickens with blood) → no fertilised egg

(Days 1- 13) Follicular phase

• Brain will signal follicles to grow the egg

• lining starts to thicken (endometrium)

• Oestrogen rises to prepare for ovulation

(Day 14) Ovulation Phase

• Follicle burst → Egg leaves ovaries → Fallopian tubes

• Feamles or highly fertile

• Mature egg is released

(Day 15-28) Luteal Phase

• The follicle will turn into the corpus luteum

• Produces progesterone - Prepares the uterine lining for a fertilized egg.

• If no pregnancy → Progeterone levels drop → Oestrogen levels drop → PMS symptom

• Starts the next period
