Bone Growth

  • Intramembranous ossification: bone development from fibrous membranes, mainly in flat bones such as the skull and clavicle.

  • Endochondral ossification: bone development from hyaline cartilage, mainly in long bones such as the femur and humerus.

    -endochondral means occuring within cartilage

  • Bone remodelling and repair: the continuous process of bone resorption and formation, regulated by osteoclasts and osteoblasts, throughout life.
