Industrial Revolution - In Easy Terms

  • England: Coal, iron, people looking for more jobs, surrounded by water = Start to Industrial Revolution

  • Technology: Instead of tedious human labor, steam technology manufactured things at a larger scale and faster.

  • Rural Cooperatives: Rural communities banding together to collectively market their products.

    • Why? More people shifted to urban workstyles, which meant the labor of the rural areas needed to make more money, thus they worked TOGETHER.

  • James Watt: Watt (Energy —> Steam). Used steam to drive pistons. People no longer needed to use the water frame (Water energy).

  • Richard Arkwright: Water frame (Before Steam powered things), used water from streams to drive spinning wheels. (Textiles)

  • Thomas Malthus:

    • P - Population grows exponentially

    • O: Outpaces the food supply

    • O: Only fewer births

    • R - Resources will only remain enough if growth is controlled.
