  • authoritarian - tell employees what to do and don’t listen to what workers have to say
  • one way, top down communication
  • give orders and don’t want feedback
==democratic;==
  • involve workers in decisions
  • empowers people
  • listen to employees ideas and ensure people contribute in discussions
  • communication is two way - bosses put forward an idea, employees give ops
  • democratic leader will regularly delegate design making power to junior staff
  • delegation of authority can be approached in 2 ways;
  • %%management by objectives;%%
    • leader agrees clear goals with staff (SMART goals - specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time bound)
    • provides necessary resources
    • allows day to day designs to be made by junior staff
  • %%laissez-faire;%%
    • allows people to get on with things by themselves
    • occurs when leaders are busy or lazy so they don’t take time to ensure junior staff know what to do
    • some employees enjoy others get frustrated
==paternalistic;==
  • acts like father
  • does what is best for staff
  • may be consultation to find views of employees but decisions are made by head of “family’
  • this boss believes employees need guidance and direction but is important they’re supported and cared for properly
  • paternalistic are interested with security and social needs of staff ( Maslow)
