Explain two contrasting views about freedom of religion. [4]

One view is that some Christians believe their role and purpose is to convert everyone to the faith. These might be fundamentalists who take literally Jesus’ instruction to baptise all people in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. As he said ‘I am the way, the truth and the life’.

Another view is that people’s religious freedom and individual faith should be respected. Pope Francis said that respect should be given to all who seek God sincerely. Everyone, whatever belief is created in God’s image, also Jesus said ‘Follow me’. He didn’t force people.
