How Local Governments are Elected:
Every 3 years people in a community vote for a representative to the local government
The representative makes decisions for the people they represent
You must be a Canadian Citizen and 18 years old to be a representative
You must live in the community for at least 6 months before the election to be a representative
Representatives that are nominated have to run a campaign
On a “Decided Voting Day” people in the community go to the polling station and vote for a representative
The representative with the most votes, wins the representatives job
These representatives will then work with the mayor in different departments and vote for different decisions, choices that people in their community wants or need
