  • primary socialsation, above average chance of certian groups being more likely to live in poverty. gilborne +mirza (2000), research the effects of social class on different ethnic groups. however… afro carribean boys did less well than their peer even when class wasnt taken into account they still did worse. AO3→ class difference could be a factor underlying difference in achievement. attainment score out of 90, white= 46, chinse = 64 black carribiean = 39. the pattern leaves questions over the academic outcome. some groups may be effected by their status more than others.

  • the home, ruth upton (2004), adult athouirty in asian families is similar to the ones found in school and respectable behaviour towards adults was expected. tony swell (2009), not the absence of male role models but is the lack of of fatherless nurturing and tough love - leads to boys relying on eachother for love.   • cultural deprivation, betereiter + engelmann (1966) language spoken by LIC black american families in inadequate for education. english isnt the only thing effecting language but attainment. 18% of students speak english as a second language. AO3→ 2015, students who didnt speak english as a first language 77% of them made progress in maths and english compared to 70%. keddie - cultural deprevation as an agrument is victim blaming when in reality they are culturally different not deprived.

  • racism in society, underachievement as school are ehtuocentric played in favour of white culture + agaisnt minorties. stop and searches in the uk decreasing yet still large majorty of black and ethnic minorities in comparrison to white. an increase of hate crimes. class gender and ethnicty interaction + power games in school leads to failure. AO3→ wood et al sent 3 similar job application with one white and two non white names. only 1/16 ethnic offered compared to 1/9 white. 2024 41% of those stoped where black. there is a decrease but not happening similtaniously.
