Vector Distribution and Stability
Stabilizing Vector Fields
- To stabilize a vector field, distribute vectors and the graphic weight of the object on the screen to avoid overemphasizing any single force or element.
- Symmetrical arrangements appear balanced only if all vectors are adequately stabilized.
- Strong vectors in one direction can override a centrally located mass.
Panning Moving Objects
- When panning to follow a moving object (motion vector), pan ahead, leaving sufficient space in front of the object.
- "Lead" the moving object to prevent the screen edge from appearing as a barrier to its motion.
Vector Magnitude
- Vector magnitude indicates the strength of its directional force, representing the perceived energy.
- High magnitude examples: a person running, pointing, an arrow, a rocket launch, etc.
Continuing and Converging Vectors
- All vector types can be continuing or converging.
- Continuing vectors: Succeed each other in the same direction.
- Converging vectors: Oppose each other, collide, reverse, or abruptly change direction.
Relative Magnitude Among Vector Types
- Motion vectors (MV) generally have a higher magnitude than index vectors (IV).
- Index vectors (IV) generally have a higher magnitude than graphic vectors (GV).
- Magnitude Hierarchy: Motion Vector > Index Vector > Graphic Vector
- MV > IV > GV
