Essential Spanish Vocabulary

  • vuestra: Your (plural informal / possessive).

  • familia: Family.

  • hijo único: Only child.

  • christiano: Christian.

  • Catholico: Catholic.

  • Jundio: Jewish.

  • hebreyo: Hebrew.

  • Lo que pasa es que: "What is happening is…" / "The thing is that…" (used to introduce a justification or explanation).

  • es que: Shortened version of "Lo que pasa es que".

  • cierre: Close / closing (noun).

  • agradecimiento: Gratitude / thankfulness / appreciation (noun).

  • agradecer: To give thanks / to appreciate (verb).

Email Register Guidelines: Formal vs. Informal

  • Addressing the Recipient (¿A quién escribes?):

    • Informal Register ():

    • Context: Used when writing to your teacher (con tu profe) or to someone of your own age (con alguien de tu edad).

    • Associated pronoun and verb forms: , te, tu, tienes.

    • Formal Register (usted):

    • Context: Used when writing to an older person (con alguien mayor) or in a formal letter (en una carta formal).

    • Associated pronoun and verb forms: usted, le, su, tiene.

    • To ask a question (preguntarte / preguntarle...):

    • ...dónde está la tarea. (where the assignment is.)

    • To apologize (disculparme por...):

    • ...no haber entregado el ensayo. (for not having turned in the essay.)

Component 3: Acción (Action and Future Steps)

  • Stating Proactive Action Steps:

    • Hablaré con Alex para conseguir los apuntes. (I will speak with Alex to get the notes.)

    • Haré los deberes esta noche. (I will do the homework tonight.)

    • Entregaré el ensayo en la próxima (I will turn in the essay next [time/class].)

  • Grammar Rules & Pronoun Attachment:

    • Future Tense Verb Forms: Examples include haré (I will do), hablaré (I will speak), and entregaré (I will hand in).

    • Pronoun Placement: Object pronouns attach directly to the end of infinitives (El pronombre se pega al infinitivo).
