Isolation

Introduction

We’re introduced to Smedley Butler, a man who is concerned because of the current times.

  • Approached by 2 stock-brokers, he’s convinced that leading veterans is the fix.

    • His character helped him push for a role “Secretary of General Affairs”, he was manipulated.

      • As Smedley went to Congress to inform them about individuals who planned to overthrow American Government and implement fascism, some diffused it and called him crazy, others believed him and ran tests.

      • These tests proved that these conspiring people had put effort into overthrowing American Democracy.

This accurately resembles the Business Plot because officials risked political instability if they called out elite figures for treason.

  • The Business Plot also represents America’s standstill between WW2 and The Holocaust.

How We Remember

The Holocaust was an event that resulted from a gradual buildup of persecution.

  • Jews had been robbed of their government rights first, then human rights.

    • Entire camps and extermination centers were constructed.

    • The war was never to stop the Holocaust, remembering it like this makes it overlook why the U.S. was a bystander.

Antisemitism & Fascism In The Twenties & Thirties

Antisemitism: anti-Jewish prejudice.

  • The Russian’s exerted a prime example, as they accused Jews and their communist ideals as attempts of world dominance.
