Continuous Data Collection

Frequency/Rate

  • Frequency: The number of times a behavior occurs. Also called a count

  • Rate: number of times a behavior occurs in a given time frame

  • Countable behaviors

    • discrete: definite stop and start point

    • occur frequently enough to capture in the defined time period

    • do not occur so quickly as to make accurate counting unlikely

Duration

  • duration data: data that reports the amount of time that passed between the beginning and ending of a behavioral occurence

  • Duration behaviors:

    • behaviors that stop and start rapidly or repeatedly

    • behaviors that related to goals fo increasing os decreasing endurance or persistence

Latency

  • latency: amount of time that passes between the stimulus and the initiation of the behavioral response

  • collected for behaviors in which the goal is to increase or decrease the amount of time that passes between the stimulus and the response

Inter-response time

  • Inter-response time: The amount of time that elapses between iterations of behavior

  • Inter-response time behaviors:

    • building behavioral fluency

    • decreasing repetitive behaviors
