Faith
  • Confidence or trust in a person, idea, or thing.

Belief
  • Conviction about particular ideas; shapes understanding of reality, influenced by perception, experiences, and ideas.

Belief System
  • Ideas that define a sense of reality, used to make sense of the world. Example: Pagmamano in Filipino culture as a gesture of respect.

  • Collection of beliefs about life and the universe, similar to a belief system; interprets reality, history, and civilization.

Different Kinds of Belief Systems or Worldviews

Theism
  • Belief in the existence of one or more gods; a creator with a relationship with creatures.

  • No real distinction between god and the universe.

Polytheism
  • Belief in and worship of many gods.

Pantheism
  • Belief that God equates to nature or the physical universe.

Monotheism

  • The term "religio" means something done with meticulous attention to detail.

  • "Religare" means to tie together or bind fast, an expression that refers to binding to God.

  • Religion is the relationship between humans and the holy, sacred, absolute, spiritual, divine, or worthy of special reverence.

  • It can be seen as an organized system of beliefs, ceremonies, and rules used to worship a deity or deities.
