Civil Rights - the rights of citizens to political and social freedom and equality.

Responsibilities - things we should do; obligations that we fulfill voluntarily
Suffrage - the right to vote
Citizenship - informed and active membership in a political community

Political Participation - All the activities used by citizens to influence the selection of political leaders or the policies they pursue
Civil Liberties - Constitutional freedoms guaranteed to all citizens
Voting Rights - no state can deny the right to vote based on race, color, or sex
Discrimination - unjustifiable negative behavior toward a group and its members
Equal Protection - the equal application of the law regardless of a person's race, religion, political beliefs, or other qualities
