Hyperbole- exaggeration to express strong emotion

Personification- A figure of speech in which an object or animal is given human feelings, thoughts, or attitudes

Allusion - a brief and indirect reference to a person, place, thing, or idea of historical, cultural, literary, or political significance (Ex. Sad romcoms are my kryptonite (alludes to Superman comics and media)

Simile- A comparison between two different things using the words like or as

Metaphor- A comparison between two different things without using the word like or as

Dialect- a form of the language that is spoken in a particular part of the country or by a particular group of people

Dialogue- a brief speech in which the character turns from the person being addressed to speak directly to the audience

Internal conflict-  character vs. self.

External conflict- between a person and someone or something else

3 types of irony and their definitions-

Alliteration-  repetition of consonants at the beginning of words

 assonance-repetition of vowel sounds within words

Apostrophe- a speech or address to a person who is not present or to a personified object

Plagiarism- using someone else's work without giving them proper credit

Blank Verse- a type of poetry that has a regular meter, but no rhyme scheme

Conflict -  serious disagreement and argument about something important

Aside - to or toward the side

Soliloquy- the act of talking to oneself

Subject-verb agreement - grammatical rule that the verb or verbs in a sentence must match the number, person, and gender of the subject

Reading comprehension- the ability to read text, process it, and understand its meaning

Revising and editing- Revising is about your content while editing is about sentence-level issues and typos
