Bill of Rights

  • 1st Amendment Freedom of religion, speech, press, assembly, and petition.

  • 2nd Amendment The right to bear arms. The right to own weapons for self defense.

3rd Amendment
Quartering of soldiers.
The right to refuse the stay of a soldier in your home during times of peace.

  • 5th Amendment Legal rights.
  1. The right to a grand jury hearing.
  2. The right to not be tried twice for the same crime.
  3. You can not be forced to say anything incriminating during your trial.
  4. You can't be punished without going through the process of law.
  5. The government can not take your land without fairly compensating you.
  • 7th Amendment Civil Trial Rights. When a person is involved in a civil case, they have the right to a jury, and that jury's decision can't be overridden by a judge. You have the right to sue someone and have a jury trial for over $20 (about $680).

  • 8th Amendment Bail and Punishment. A judge can't ask for excessive amounts of money or property for a bail. After a trial is completed; if the person is found guilty, they can't be subject to "cruel and unusual punishment" or "excessive fines".

  • 9th Amendment Rights Retained by the People. Some rights (not listed in the Bill of Rights, or Constitution) are still retained by the people.

  • 4th Amendment Searches and seizures. The right to refuse unnecessary searches, seize property or arrest by police unless of probable cause or a warrant.

  • 6th Amendment Criminal Trial Rights.

  1. You can't be kept in jail for an extended period of time before your trial.
  2. Trials can not be held in secret, or away from the public eye.
  3. The accused has the right to a jury that lives in the defendants area and has had no influence from them.
  4. The right to an attorney in their defense.
