Important constitutional provisions regarding elections
- Article 324- Single, autonomous election commission for Central Legis, State, Prez, VP
- Article 325- Consti provides for preparation of a single electoral roll for each constituency called general electoral roll to the elections to the Houses of Parliament and state legislative bodies.
- Article 326- UAF to all citizens of India who are otherwise not disqualified by the Constitution or an act of legislature on the ground of non-residence, unsound mind, crime or corrupt practices. (61st amendment= 21 to 18 years reduction)
○ Universal means this right is extended to every eligible person irresp of religion, sex, edn etc.
- Article 327- confers the power on Parliament to regulate election by law to both houses of parliament and the state legis incl the procedure of preparation of electoral roll, delimitation of constituencies and relevant matters.
- Article 328- State Legis is also conferred with the power to make law to regulate the elections of the respective state legislative bodies in the areas where provisions have not been made by parliament so far.
