Exam Guidelines
Students are permitted to bring one double-sided page of notes to the exam.
Notes can include whatever students deem necessary.
Students are discouraged from trying to fit too much information, due to the rule of diminishing returns.
Using a magnifying glass to read small text on notes is not allowed.
Purpose of Notes
The objective is to condense crucial information necessary for success on the exam.
Open notes are not permitted as it would require changing the difficulty of the exam and would slow down the process as students search through extensive notes.
Format of Notes
Students can use a normal-sized sheet of paper (printer paper), not an index card or poster board.
Notes can be handwritten, typed, or color-coded.
Students may keep their notes after the exam.
Nature of the Exam
The exam evaluates understanding of concepts rather than memorization of random terms.
It assesses the ability to apply definitions and understand underlying ideas in questions.
Gender and Health Inequities
Previous discussion focused on the connection between gender and mental/physical health care access, highlighting:
Men's healthcare-seeking behavior is often influenced by partner encouragement.
Discussion of gender stereotypes contributes to men's reluctance to seek care, impacting longevity; women generally outlive men by about 10 years on average.
Consequences of Poor Mental Health
Manifestations of poor mental health include:
Neglecting personal health.
Social withdrawal.
Substance abuse (drugs/alcohol).
Lack of sleep.
Poor physical health can inversely affect mental health, leading to higher rates of depression, especially in severe cases like terminal illnesses.
Aggressive Gender Role and Impact
Traditional male roles emphasize aggression, contributing to negative health outcomes:
Leads to risky behaviors and physical altercations.
Correlates with lower lifespans, as stressful behaviors can lead to health decline.
Widespread Abuse of Women
Gender-based violence against women is alarmingly prevalent and takes various forms:
Physical abuse: easily identifiable due to visible marks.
Emotional and psychological abuse: includes manipulative tactics that leave lasting scars without visible signs.
Financial abuse: denying access to resources or exploiting individuals (often in vulnerable situations).
Sexual abuse/rape: most commonly perpetrated by known aggressors (acquaintances, partners).
Statistics show that 25-50% of women globally experience some form of abuse.
Inequality and Violence Against Women
